How to Measure for Your Beekeeping Suit (Unisex)

First time buying a suit? No worries—this quick guide shows you exactly how to measure your height and chest so you can choose the right size with confidence.

Unisex size chart showing male and female outlines with height (A) and chest (B) measuring points
Use this chart with the steps below. The dotted line (B) shows where to measure your chest; the vertical arrow (A) shows total height.

Before You Start

  • Wear light clothing (a T-shirt works well).
  • Use a soft tape measure; ask a friend to help for best accuracy.
  • Stand naturally—relaxed shoulders, normal breathing.

Step-by-Step: Measure Your Height (A)

  1. Remove shoes and stand straight with your back to a wall, feet flat and heels touching the wall.
  2. Look forward and keep your shoulders relaxed.
  3. Place a flat object (like a book) on top of your head, level with the ceiling, and make a light mark on the wall.
  4. Measure from the floor to the mark. That is your total height.

Why it matters: Height helps ensure the suit length (torso, sleeves, and legs) gives you room to move without pulling when you bend or lift frames.

Step-by-Step: Measure Your Chest (B)

  1. Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, just under the arms and across the shoulder blades (follow the dotted line “B” on the chart).
  2. Keep the tape horizontal and snug, but not tight—don’t hold your breath.
  3. Note the measurement in inches or centimeters. If the number falls between marks on the tape, round up.

Tip: If you plan to wear thicker clothing under your suit, add 1–2 in (3–5 cm) for comfort.

Choosing Your Size

  • On the size chart, find the height range (A) that includes your height.
  • Check that your chest (B) measurement is at or below the chest limit for the same size.
  • If your height points to one size and your chest points to a larger size, choose the larger size.
  • Between sizes? Go up one size. A slightly looser fit improves airflow, sting protection, and mobility.

Quick Fit Checklist

  • Can you squat, lift your arms, and twist comfortably?
  • Are sleeves long enough to overlap gloves and elastic secure at wrists/ankles?
  • Is the torso length comfortable when bending (no pulling at shoulders or crotch)?
